How Community Research Lead to Success and a Nationally-Recognized Program.
A large, influential credit union wanted to tackle affordable housing in their community, but was not sure where to start. As a team they questioned: Should we expand down payment assistance programs? Partner with developers? Offer special loan products?
Profound Hope Industries knew community input would make all the difference. We worked with the credit union to compile the data and connect with the community, leading to a clear path to success for the client and the members they wished to serve.
The Challenge
This client organization was already deeply engaged in community efforts, but affordable housing presented a new challenge.
Leadership witnessed the challenges their working-class members faced as available housing became increasingly constrained regionally.
Without clear direction, staff risked investing time and energy into programs the community did not actually need.
Our Solution
Our team at PHI collected feedback and insights from local residents, leaders, and stakeholders.
This research revealed there were multiple ways to approach the issue, as well as new approaches that were better suited to the credit union’s infrastructure and existing priorities.
The Results
Fueled by new clarity, the credit union selected a few strategies to sharpen their focus around. One of these approaches was to build a pilot program with a local housing authority to help residents with two specialized products.
The project created meaningful results. More importantly, it built trust. Not only that, but the program won industry recognition as one of the top programs in the country from an affordable housing association just a few years later.
Community research built a stronger, more focused strategy that achieved the end goal of addressing barriers to housing with better clarity and smarter use of the organization’s resources.
